The Jobs for Nature projects
We allocated $485.3 million to help over 225 projects across New Zealand. Iwi, hapū and whānau were at the heart of our partnership approach to Jobs for Nature programme.

Our project partners created jobs on private land and public conservation land that involved:

  • predator and weed control
  • restoring wetlands and priority waterways
  • regenerative planting
  • improving tracks, huts and other recreational, cultural or heritage assets and sites
  • training and capability development.

Our programme investment included:

  • $198.6 million to work with councils, iwi and local businesses throughout the country to provide nature-based jobs both on and off public land, through regional partnership groups.
  • $141.3 million for ecosystem restoration on public land and private land.
  • $147.5 million for jobs in pest control and eradication, including advancing Predator Free New Zealand and working with iwi to prevent the collapse of North Island forests.
