Introduction

We lead a range of programmes that are restoring New Zealand’s precious rivers, lakes and wetlands.

Our restoration work is carried out in partnership with iwi, regional councils, local landowners and businesses, and other agencies.

Some of our freshwater ecosystems have been lost, especially wetlands. Others have been degraded by deforestation, pollution, land-use change, run off and invasion by pest animals and plants.

With our partners, we are identifying the local threats and pressures, and opportunities and activities for restoration. Restoration will contribute to the resilience of freshwater ecosystems and the native species they support.
