Before you go, buy a hut ticket online for each night's stay. You can print or display the digital ticket on your device, or write down the ticket and confirmation numbers to take with you. You can also buy a Backcountry Hut Pass that allows you to stay at non-bookable DOC huts for a 12 month period.

Nearest huts

• Port William Hut: 3–4 hr on the North West Circuit
• Christmas Village Hut: 6 hr on the North West Circuit

Bungaree Hut can also be accessed by water taxi or charter boat (see Stewart Island visitor information).

Boil water before use

Water at this hut is not treated and needs to be boiled before use. High rat numbers on Stewart Island/Rakiura increase the risk of tank water being contaminated.
