Red deer, pigs and goats are present in this reserve.
General information
Lowland forest with tawa and kamahi the dominant canopy trees. Some lower areas of regenerating farm land consisting of manuka and tree fern. The terrain is moderate to steep.
Access
From State Highway 4, turn onto Oio Road south of Ōwhango. Follow the road to just past Retaruke, the roadside access is signposted. The Retaruke River can be crossed easily under normal flow conditions.
