Volunteer to help mistletoe grow at Turakirae Head
December 2025 – January 2026: Help grow the population of mistletoe at Turakirae Head on the Wainuiomata coast.

We need 1-2 volunteers in December and January each year. No experience is needed as training is provided but an interest in botany is preferred. Medium fitness required.

What to expect

You'll work with rangers or other volunteers to help spread the population of mistletoe (Korthalsella clavata) in the area. This includes seed collection, processing, and re-planting at site every 4-5 days. 

You'll be working up to 4 hours per day between December and January, this includes 2 hours on site and 1-2 hours scraping seed nets. You must be able to commit to being available for a full month.

You must be over the age of 18.

Fitness required: A medium level of fitness is required. You need to be capable of tramping with a pack for up to 4 hrs.

Skills required: Any necessary training will be provided. If you have specific skills list them in your application.

Accommodation: No accommodation is provided.

Transport: You will need your own transport. We will discuss logistics with you.

What to bring

Food: You will need to provide your own food. 

Gear: Find out what to bring. A full gear list will be provided when your volunteering opportunity is confirmed. Any safety gear and all tools will be supplied.
