Introduction

Have your say on the naming of a scenic reserve near Dargaville. Submissions closed on 18 July 2022.

Pursuant to the New Zealand Geographic Board Act 2008, notice is hereby given that the Department of Conservation proposes to name a scenic reserve located near Dargaville.

Proposed name

The proposed name is Te Kuihi Scenic Reserve.

DOC seeks submissions from any person or organisation wishing to support or object to the proposed name. Note this relates to the proposed name only and not to the establishment of the scenic reserve.

The proposed Te Kuihi Scenic Reserve (291 ha) is located at Hoanga Road near Dargaville and is within the Tokatoka Ecological District.

How to submit

Submissions must provide reasons for supporting or objecting to the proposed name and if an objection is made, then an alternative name proposal may be suggested.

What happens next

After considering any submissions received on the proposed name, and before finally deciding on the name, the Minister of Conservation will refer them to the New Zealand Geographic Board (Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa).

This is in accordance with section16 of the Reserves Act 1977, in order to be reviewed by the Board under section 27(3) of the New Zealand Geographic Board (Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aotearoa) Act 2008.
