WHAT YOU
CAN DO
-
Find out what the problem weeds are in your area and learn how to identify them. For help, check out Weedbusters or your local or regional council website.
-
If you find a problem weed on your property, come up with a plan for tackling it. Weeds love cleared areas, so it’s best to start small.
-
Choose garden plants that don't spread, or plant natives instead. 75% of the problem weeds here were originally being grown in people's gardens.
-
Prevent weeds from spreading to natural areas by covering your load when you’re taking garden waste to the tip.
-
Find a weedbusters group near you and help tackle weeds in your community. An extra pair of gloves on a working bee makes a big difference, even if you can’t make a regular commitment.
HOW YOU'LL
MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Weeds like old man’s beard and tradescantia can smother forests, crowd out native plants and spread into New Zealand's wildest places.
Weeds now outnumber native plant species here, and it’s getting worse. It’s up to us to stop the spread.

If you’re a keen weed spotter, sign up to iNaturalist NZ and share your sightings. You’ll be helping grow scientists’ picture of pest plants in Aotearoa.
-
Pine trees growing in the wild are a big problem. The Wilding Pine Network can connect you with a community group controlling pines in your area.
ARE YOU IN?
It takes everyone to make a difference for nature. Every little bit helps.
NATURE'S IN
TROUBLE
Thousands of our native species are heading towards extinction, but it’s not too late to save them.
All around New Zealand, Kiwis are bringing nature back.
