The main role of the Chatham Island Conservation Board is to oversee the implementation of the Conservation Management Strategy as well as providing a community perspective to the Department of Conservation. The board:
- focuses on local rather than national issues
- improves understanding of Tikanga Maori/Moriori
- advises the department on all issues relating to conservation management undertaken on main Chatham, Pitt Island and surrounding islets.
Meetings are open to the public.
