Description

The old powerhouse near the start of
the One Mile Walk
Walk through the closest beech forest to Queenstown, in a creek environment that's home to numerous native birds: bellbird/korimako, tui, fantail/piwakwaka and tomtit/miromiro.
The track is steep in parts and follows an old pipeline up to One Mile Dam, once part of one of New Zealand’s first hydro-electric power development - you pass the old power house and several interpretation panels at the foot of the hill.
From the old dam there are several alternatives. You can retrace your steps; go on to the Skyline Road to connect with either the Fernhill-One Mile or Ben Lomond Tracks or follow the signposts to Wynyard Crescent, which leads back to the waterfront and Queenstown.
