Whinray Scenic Reserve

This 5 km track runs through the reserve.

There are two options for walking the track:

  • Cross the swingbridge at the car park and walk up the track as far as you wish. A 30 minute walk will allow you to experience the dense forest.
  • The reserve can also be accessed at the Marumoko Road end of the track. The walk is an easy gradient, suitable for all ages and takes 2.5 hours. The track ends at the reserve car park.

Getting there

Whinray Scenic Reserve is located 87 kilometres from Gisborne, halfway between Opotiki and Gisborne. The reserve is located just past Motu township. The reserve car park is 5 km past the township of Motu on the Motu Falls Road.

Although some walking tracks are suitable for mountain biking there is no mountain biking in the Whinray Scenic Reserve.
