A permit is required to hunt on public conservation land.

This hunting area is covered by an 'open area permit' – get it online or from a DOC office.

About this hunting block

Pigs are present in the Puriri block. Goats are also present in low numbers.

General information

The Puriri block encompasses the Puriri Scenic Reserve and Coromandel Forest Park totalling approximately 12,000 ha. The forest types comprise lowland/coastal to secondary manuka/kanuka forest and kauri forest. The terrain is undulating with sharp ridges and steep guts. 

Access

The Puriri block has access points including the Kopu Hikuai Road, Neavesville Road, Otamakite Road, Wentworth Valley Road and Maratoto Road.

Landholders

All hunters are asked to respect the rights of private land owners and farmers and gain permission from the land owner/occupier should they intend to gain access to the block across private land.

Dogs

  • The number of hunting dogs is limited to three per permittee.
  • Dogs must be kept under control at all times.
  • Dogs are not permitted in DOC campgrounds.

There are no DOC huts in this block.
