About this hunting block

General information

This 234 hectare reserve is located just north of the Dome Forest. The reserve is characterised by hill country with dense native bush. 

Access

Access to the south side of the reserve is from the end of the Waiwhiu-Conical Peak Road and there is also walking access from the McArther Peak/Conical Peak Road.

Landowner permission is not required.

Dogs

No dogs, including hunting dogs, are permitted in this reserve.

Hunting

Goats are generally the only animal hunted in this reserve.  Animal numbers appear low, based on hunting returns.

Shotguns, .22 rifles, four-wheel-drive vehicles, motorbikes, quad bikes, horses and dogs are prohibited on DOC managed reserves where hunting is available in the north Auckland area.

No shooting is allowed within 200 metres of walking tracks.

Additional information

  • Permits issued online for other North Island 'open' hunting areas are not valid for reserves around Warkworth/North Auckland - hunters must contact the DOC office to apply for a specific permit.
  • No shooting within 200 metres of the track.
  • No 4WDs.
  • No access from the north via Govan Wilson Road.
  • Good map reading skills are required to find this reserve.
