Activities at Te Rerenga Wairua (Cape Reinga)
Tracks and walks
Te Paki Reserves offers tracks and walks including a major walkway - Cape Reinga Coastal Walkway - some of which forms part of the nationwide Te Araroa Trail. The Walkway consists of a series of interlinking track sections ranging from 30 minutes to several hours. There are also other tracks you can access from SH1 and link into the walkway.
Choose the type of track that most suits the skills and abilities of your party. You must be well prepared with suitable clothing and equipment for all weather and conditions. Safety is your responsibility.

The area provides easy access to idyllic campgrounds, great walking tracks and picnic areas. Opportunities for outdoor recreation are endless, from enjoying the stunning views, bird watching and tramping, to swimming, diving, fishing and surfing the waves or the extensive sand dunes at Te Paki Stream.
The East Coast is generally more sheltered with sandy bays suitable for water sports and rocky headlands where fishing, snorkelling and scuba diving are popular.
The West Coast is more wild and exposed than the East, with spectacular golden sand dunes.
You can explore the area on your own, or there are a good number of tourism operators offering specially designed tours.
