Introduction

Mackintosh Hut is located on a wide plateau at the edge of a beech forest in Kaweka Forest Park. The hut is a good base for hunting and tramping opportunities.

Permit requirements

A permit is required to hunt on public conservation land.

This hunting area is covered by an 'open area permit' – get it online or from a DOC office.

Dog access

Dogs with a DOC permit (contact the relevant DOC office) and a current kiwi aversion certificate only.

Location

Mackintosh Hut is located in the mid-southern area of the Kaweka Forest Park. It can be accessed via the Castle Rock Road to "Lakes" carpark off the Napier/Taihape Road, and also from the Makahu Saddle.

Dogs

Only registered, avian aversion certified hunting dogs, guide dogs, companion dogs (certified by the Top Dog Companion Trust) and dogs used for special services (including conservation management activities) are permitted in the park. All other dogs are banned.
