Access

Arataki Road Access

Take Arataki Road off SH 32 (Tihoi Road) 5 km to the road end – forest margin.

Link Road - Pureora Mountain and Titiraupenga Access Tracks

Take Barryville Road off SH 30, 2 km turn left onto Link Road remain on this road for 9.2 km to the car park. Link road carries on for a further 17 km to connect with SH 32. 

Timber Trail

Pureora to Piropiro (40 km) (walking/mountain bike access) - signposted from Link Road 5 km to start point. 

Link Road – Kakaho Access

Eastern access to Link Road and Bogg Inn – off SH 32, 6 km to Kakaho Campsite and Pureora forest boundary. 

Bogg Inn Hut

Turn off Link Road onto Tihoi Road just north of the Kakaho Campsite. Further along Tihoi Road, take Bog Inn Road to reach the car park 11 km. 

Western South Block interior access to Piropiro Flats and beyond

Off SH 4, turn on to the Waimiha-Mangapehi Rd. Turn east at Waimiha, follow Ongarue Stream Rd into Kokomiko Road for 14 km to Pureora forest boundary.

Piropiro Flats (Campground)

A further 3.5 km along Koromiko Rd.

Ongarue Stream (Angels Rest) Access

Follow Ongarue Stream Road 8.5 km north from Piropiro Flats. 

Ketemaringi Track

Take Okauaka Rd off Ongarue Stream Road to car park. Track to Ketemaringi trig and beyond.

Totara Stream Access Track

Sign posted from Piropiro flats – road access to a car park then quadbike or mountain bike access which eventually connects with the Ketemaringi track.

The Timber Trail carpark (walking/mountain bike access)

Piropiro to Ongarue (45 km) - a lot of country accessible from the Timber Trail to the south.  Firearms are not allowed across privately owned land at the southern egress of the cycle trail. 

Waihora Lagoon

Signposted off SH 32 (western Bays Road) 5 km south of Tihoi. 6.5 km over farmland and through regenerating forest to the car park. Access to the main range via Weraroa track or the Waihaha via the Mangatu track.

Waihaha River Access Track

Off the Western Bay Road (State Highway 32) - Waihaha car park is adjacent to the highway bridge.  Walking access to the Waihaha Hut 8.5 km.

Waituhi-Kuratau Scenic Reserve hunting

Off SH 41.

Mangakahu Valley Road

Off SH 4, turn on to the Waimiha-Mangapehi Rd. Turn east at Ongarue, follow Ngakonui Ongarue Stream Rd into Mangakahu Valley Rd for 18 km to a locked gate and parking area. Follow marked route to Pureora forest boundary and Hauhungaroa Track. Hauhungaroa Hut 7.km.
