General information

Piropiro flats is a launching site for many hunters and allows easy access into the Maramataha and Waione catchments. Frost flats and skid sites found throughout the area along with heavily forested areas makes for a variety of hunting environments.

Access

Piropiro Flats may be found 14 km along Kokomiko Road. To get there Off SH 4, turn on to the Waimiha-Mangapehi Rd. Turn east at Waimiha, follow Ongarue Stream Rd into Kokomiko Road.

Dogs

Dogs are prohibited from public conservation land except where authorisation has been granted by DOC. A standard open hunting permit for the Pureora Forest/Western King Country allows a hunter to take up to two dogs or party of hunters a maximum of three dogs into public conservation land.

All dogs must remain under the strict control of owners and must not be allowed to stray onto surrounding farmland or cause distress to other recreational users.

To take dogs across private property you must get permission from the landowner.

Huts

Piropiro Flats is a basic campground.

Additional information

Spotlighting around the campground or along the roads is not permitted.
