General information

Piropiro is a launching site for many hunters and allows easy access into the Okauaka, Maramataha and Waione catchments. A variety of hunting environments can be accessed from this location.

Piropiro hosts a wide variety of cyclists, trampers, campers and hunters. Please respect other visitors and don't discharge firearms near the campsite, roads and tracks.

Access

Piropiro is 14 km along Kokomiko Road. To get there from SH4, turn on to the Waimiha-Mangapehi Road. Turn east at Waimiha, follow Ongarue Stream Road into Kokomiko Road. From SH30 turn onto Waimiha-Mangapehi Road near Mangapehi, then left onto Ongarue Stream Road, then right onto Kokomiko Road.

Dogs

Dogs are prohibited from public conservation land except where authorisation has been granted by DOC. A standard open hunting permit for the Pureora Forest/Western King Country allows a hunter to take up to two dogs or party of hunters a maximum of three dogs into public conservation land.

All dogs must remain under the strict control of owners and must not be allowed to stray onto surrounding farmland or cause distress to other recreational users.

To take dogs across private property you must get permission from the landowner.

Huts

Piropiro is a basic campground.

Spotlighting anywhere on conservation land is not allowed. No hunting near the campground, roads and tracks.
