This hunting area is covered by an 'open area permit' – get it online or from a DOC office.

Dogs with a DOC permit (contact the relevant DOC office) and a current kiwi aversion certificate only.

About this hunting block

Goats, pigs and possums are present in this reserve with a few fallow deer if you are lucky. 

General information

Permits are available online as 'Taranaki Forests' under the Central North Island hunting block.

This small 128 ha hill reserve is covered in a mixture of tawa forest and mānuka scrub that falls steeply to the Whenuakura River. The reserve is adjacent to the larger Rawhitiroa Road Conservation Area.

Access

Access directly off Rawhitiroa Road.

Landholders

Ensure to hunt within the DOC boundary as trespassers onto private land will be prosecuted.

Huts

There are no DOC huts in this reserve.

Dogs

Dogs are prohibited except where authorisation has been granted by DOC. People wishing to take a dog into this area need to get a permit from the local DOC office and have a current kiwi aversion certificate.

Avian awareness and avoidance training

To take dogs across private property, or tracks crossing farmland, you must get permission from the landowner.
