Introduction

Deer and possums can be hunted in this coastal block in Rakiura National Park.
  • Possum hunting: You need both a restricted hunting permit and a possum trapping permit for this block. Get a possum trapping permit by emailing stewartisland@doc.govt.nz
  • Bookings required all year.
  • Possum control operations – closures, partial closures, or caution periods may be in effect. Check this page for alerts.

This hunting area is covered by a 'restricted area permit'. Contact the DOC office managing the hunting area.

General information

Māori Beach is a coastal block within Rakiura National Park.

No hunting within 100 metres of the Rakiura Track at any time of the year.

How to book restricted hunting blocks and apply for hunting permits.

Bookings are required and can be made up to 12 months in advance. Check availability of Stewart Island hunting blocks.

Request a booking online or contact Rakiura National Park Visitor Centre.  

Access

Hunting blocks can be accessed by sea or air. You need to organise your own transport to and from the block. We recommend learning about transport options before you apply. Visit the Stewart Island website for more information.
