You can hunt red deer and pigs in the Grove Burn Conservation Area.

Permit requirements

A permit is required to hunt on public conservation land.

This hunting area is covered by an 'open area permit' which can be obtained online or from a DOC office.

Dog access

Dogs allowed. Keep dog under control at all times.

About this hunting block

The Grove Burn Conservation Area covers approximately 49 ha and is situated 7 km northwest of Tuatapere and consists of easy contoured regenerating beech forest and scrub. 


From SH99 near Tuatapere, turn onto Groveburn Road, access is from the second gravel road leading off from Groveburn Road. A permit for access through forestry land is required from Lindsay and Dixon Ltd.

Pigs - low numbers


  • Dogs must be registered and are not permitted in huts.
  • When crossing private land, dogs are to be on a leash until well into forest and kept under control.
  • DOC must be notified regarding missing or lost dogs on conservation land.

There are no DOC huts available.
