Introduction

You can hunt fallow deer and pigs in the Tuapeka West hunting block on the eastern side of the Clutha River, downstream of Beaumont.

Permit requirements

A permit is required to hunt on public conservation land.

This hunting area is covered by an 'open area permit' – get it online or from a DOC office.

Seasonal restrictions

Before lighting a fire on public conservation land, check it's alright to light. Extinguish all fires before leaving huts and campsites. How to minimise the risk of fire.

Dog access

Dogs with a DOC permit only. More information below or contact the relevant DOC office.

About this hunting block

Animals present are fallow deer and pigs.

General information

This block is part of the Tuapeka West Scenic Reserve, on the eastern side of the Clutha River, downstream of Beaumont.

A significant amount of beech/tawhai forest, podocarp and kānuka covers the block. The terrain is steep but has some river flats as well.

Access

Access is via Rongahere Road on the west bank of the Clutha between Beaumont and Clydevale. From here you have to use a boat to access the hunting block.

Alternative access to the block from the eastern side is by permission of landholders.

Dogs

Dogs are allowed in this block with a hunting permit.

If accessing the block over private land, you must have landholder permission to take your dog.
