Introduction

You can hunt goats in the Taieri River hunting block on the northern bank of the lower Taieri River, upstream from Taieri Mouth.

A permit is required to hunt on public conservation land.

This hunting area is covered by an 'open area permit' – get it online or from a DOC office.

Seasonal restrictions

Before lighting a fire on public conservation land, check it's alright to light. Extinguish all fires before leaving huts and campsites. How to minimise the risk of fire.

Dog access

General information

This block is part of the Taieri River Scenic Reserve.

It is situated on the northern bank of the lower Taieri River, upstream from Taieri Mouth.
A significant amount of the area is steep bush clad faces of podocarp, broadleaf and kānuka forest with a number of bluff systems throughout.

Access

There are two access points:

  • South of Brighton via Taieri Mouth Road, then right onto Otokia Kuri Bush Road East, then the first left past Maori Reserve Road, into the road marked "Scenic Reserve". The road is suitable for all vehicles – there is a car park area at the end of the road.
  • From the Taieri River, by boat.

Dogs

Dogs are allowed in this block with a hunting permit. If accessing the block over private land, you must have landholder permission to take your dog.
