Glenomaru hunting

Pigs and red deer are present in the Glenomaru hunting block northwest of Owaka.

Glenomaru is now an open hunting permit area

Glenomaru was previously covered by restricted hunting permits. On 15 May 2026 the hunting area was moved into the open area hunting permit. All permits issued from 15 May 2026 will include details for this hunting area.

Active open hunting permits issued before 15 May 2026 that include the Lower South Island region will not show details for this hunting area, but hunting is authorised for the hunting area under these permits. See the special conditions that apply to hunting in this hunting area.

General information

This is a bush covered, 490 ha reserve, 10 km northwest of Owaka.

Access

Turn off the Balclutha-Owaka Highway onto Glenomaru Road, 20 km south of Balclutha, or 10 km north of Owaka. About 5 km along this road there is direct access to the block.

If you wish to cross private land to access certain parts of the block, you must have landholder permission.

Dogs

Dogs are allowed in this block with a hunting permit. If accessing the block over private land, you must have landholder permission to take your dog.
