Whangārei area hunting

The Whangārei area offers good opportunities for hunting pigs and goats, as well as game birds, possums and rabbits.

Numerous hunting blocks are scattered throughout the Whangārei area, from the Brynderwyn ranges to Russell Forest. The hunting blocks are primarily small in size ranging from 100 ha – 500 ha. Popular hunting areas are the 5 larger forest tracts that are greater than 1000 ha – Tangihua Forest, Mareretu Forest, Mangakahia Forest, Otaika Valley and Russell Forest.

The area is characterised by extensive shrubland and tall broadleaf or kauri forest surrounded by farmland or forestry.
