About this hunting block

Pigs are generally hunted in these reserves. Goats are present in low numbers. 

General information

The Hokianga hunting blocks encompass Pareokawa Water Conservation Scenic Reserve, Mangonuiowae Wildlife Management Reserve, Paponga Conservation Area, Motukaraka Scenic Reserve and Tapuwae Scenic Reserve

The Hokianga reserves cover a mixture of coastal hardwood forest with kauri and kanuka/manuka shrubland, scattered totara, coastal dune systems and mud flats. All are high-value habitats.

Access

• Pareokawa Water Conservation Scenic Reserve and Mangonuiowae Wildlife Management Reserve: via Hicks Road, Broadwood. Access is over private land; land owner permission required.
• Paponga Conservation Area: access off Paponga Road.
• Motukaraka Scenic Reserve: via Paponga Rd and West Coast Road.
• Tapuwae Scenic Reserve: no road access.
