About this hunting block
General information
Pigs are generally hunted in these reserves. Goats are present in low numbers.
Far North East Coast hunting blocks cover just around 3,775 ha, encompassing Waikaramu Lake Conservation Area, Rangaunu Conservation Area, Tokerau Beach Conservation Area, Paikauri Conservation Area, Paranui Scenic Reserve, and Otangaroa Conservation Area, Mangatete Farm Settlement Scenic Reserve, and Te Koroa Scenic Reserve.
Many of these blocks are small and border private land. Hunters must ensure they are aware of reserve boundaries and keep hunting dogs under control.
East Coast hunting blocks consist mainly of wetlands, gumlands, dense mixed kauri/broadleaf forest, and kanuka shrubland.
These reserves are a mixture of outstanding wildlife and historic areas, home to various historic remnants, native animals and plants such as kiwi, kauri snails, and native fish.
Note to all hunters: other recreational users are in and around Tokerau Beach and the surrounding hunting blocks at different times of the year, including trampers using walking/tramping tracks.
