Beebys - Mt Richmond Forest Park

About this hunting block

General information

Beebys Ridge is an area of forest that lies between the ultramafic Red Hills area and the Korere-Tophouse Road.

The area is predominantly beech forest ranging from red beech on the lower slopes through to silver and mountain beech on the upper slopes. The main Beebys Ridge opens out on to open tussock grasslands where the hut is situated.

Red deer are in low to moderate numbers.

Pigs are distributed throughout and the occasional feral goat may be encountered.

Access

Walking access to the open tops can be gained from a marked route that leads off from a carpark situated on the Korere-Tophouse Road approx 6 km from the junction with State Highway 63.

4WD access to Beebys Hut can also be gained between 1 December and 30 April. This access, which comes off the gravel section of Tophouse Road, is via private property and a locked gate. It is essential to book your trip at the Nelson Lakes Visitor Centre where a $90 bond will be required for the key.

Dogs

Hunting dogs are allowed by permit only and are allowed to be overnight in the area.

Dog permits are available from the local DOC office.

4WD access up to the hut is allowed between 1 December and 30 April. Bookings for this can be made from 1 November at the Nelson Lakes Visitor Centre. It is essential that you keep to the formed road.

About Teetotal sighting-in range

Teetotal sighting-in range is located off Teetotal Road in the Teetotal Recreation Area approximately 3.3km northwest of St. Arnaud.

Hunters can safely check their rifle sightings at the Teetotal sighting-in range facility before heading into nearby parks and conservation land to hunt.

To use the sighting-in range you must have a Teetotal sighting-in range permit, or be under the supervision of a Range Officer. This is a legal requirement under the Arms Act 1983 from 1 July 2023.
