The Gisborne Raukumara region covers an area east from the Motu River to East Cape and south to Gisborne. It includes the rugged and remote Raukumara Conservation Park which includes the 40,000 ha Raukumara Wilderness Area. There is over 120000 ha of public conservation land within this region.
The area is characterised by both large tracts of remote rugged forest areas as well as small accessible scenic reserves and conservation areas.
Hunting opportunities within the area include deer, pigs, feral cattle and goats.
Access is via State highways 2 and 35 which surround much of the area. Numerous side roads provide access into the mostly back country areas.
