General information

The Kennedy Bay area encompasses a complete seashore to mid-altitude sequence of habitats in which there are remnant populations of kaka  and brown kiwi. The varied forest types present are classified as coastal broadleaved and regenerating kanuka/manuka forests. The area comprises 1123 ha of public conservation land surrounded by private land.

Access

Access to the Kennedys Bay block is predominantly via the Tuateawa/Little Bay Road.

Landholders

All hunters are asked to respect the rights of private land owners and farmers and gain permission from the land owner/occupier should they intend to gain access to the block across private land.

Dogs

  • The number of hunting dogs is limited to three per permittee.
  • It is a requirement that all dogs in this block have current certification for kiwi/bird aversion training.
  • Dogs must be kept under control at all times.
  • Dogs are not permitted in DOC campgrounds.
