Game Animal Council
Day-to-day management of the Sika HOSI is directed by the Game Animal Council. On the ground management is delivered by the Sika Foundation.
About this hunting block
The Sika HOSI area is part of the DOC Lower North Island open hunting permit.
The HOSI area is slightly smaller than the open hunting areas for the Kaimanawa and Kaweka forest parks. Hunters should make themselves familiar with the HOSI area boundary (see map above).
Dogs
Kaimanawa Forest Park
A maximum of 1 dog per hunter is allowed in the Kaimanawa Forest Park. A separate permit is required from the Taupo or Turangi DOC offices to use more than 1 dog. Kiwi and whio avoidance training is recommended for dogs entering the Kaimanawa Forest Park.
Kaweka Forest Park
A maximum of 1 dog per hunter is allowed in the Kaimanawa Forest Park. All dogs used for hunting in the Kaweka Forest Park must have a current avian avoidance certificate which must be carried when hunting. A separate permit is required from Ahuriri Napier DOC office to use more than 1 dog.
