Kaimanawa Forest Park offers great hunting for sika and red deer and limited pig hunting opportunities.

Hihitahi Forest Sanctuary hunting

Red deer are present in the Hihitahi Forest Sanctuary, off State Highway 1, approximately 15km north from Taihape.

Pukepoto Ecological Area

Hunt deer, goats and pigs in this area covered by mixed podocarp-broadleaved forest. The area has steep slopes around Maungaku Andesite Cone (981 m)
