About this hunting block

Oxford Recreational Hunting Area (RHA) encompasses both the Oxford Forest Conservation Area and the Mt Thomas Conservation Area. The hatching on the map shows the boundary of the Oxford RHA over these two areas.

Recreational hunting areas

Recreational Hunting Areas were set aside by the New Zealand Forest Service for the enjoyment of recreational hunting. Provided recreational hunters keep wild animal numbers at acceptable levels, commercial wild animal recovery is not permitted.

Oxford RHA was gazetted in 1982. Since then additional public conservation land has increased the size of both Oxford Forest and Mt Thomas conservation areas. These new public conservation lands are not gazetted as RHAs, but they are excluded from Wild Animal Recovery Operations (WARO).
