About this hunting block
General information
The terrain is moderate to steep. Vegetation is predominantly beech forest with some shrubland, tussock and open tops. Pigs, red deer and chamois are present in low to moderate numbers.
Access
Access to the area is via Lake Sumner Road. There is a locked gate beyond Loch Katrine which is currently managed by The Lakes Station. There are no restrictions for foot access beyond the gate but you will need permission from The Lakes Station for vehicles as far as the swingbridge over the Hurunui River. No vehicles are allowed across the Hurunui River. The flats on the true left of the Hurunui River is Lakes Station freehold land. Absolutely no hunting is permitted.
Boat access is possible from Loch Katrine to Lake Sumner. There is also foot access from Lake Sumner over the track behind Home Bay via Lake Mason. Access permission is required from Lakes Station and Esk Head Station.

Dogs are not permitted in the Hurunui hunting block as kiwi are present.
