Boyle River hunting

About this hunting block

General information

The Boyle River hunting area is part of Lake Sumner Forest Park. It borders the Lewis Pass National Reserve, St James Conservation Area and Glenhope Station.

The terrain is moderate to steep. Vegetation is predominantly beech forest with shrubland, tussock and open tops. Pigs, red deer and chamois are present in low to moderate numbers.

Other hunters and trampers may be encountered.

Access

There is no vehicle access into this area. Foot access to the upper Boyle and Magdalen is via the St James Walkway. Parts of this track cross Glenhope Station. Strictly no hunting is permitted in this area.

Rifles must be carried with the bolt removed when on the track.

Access to the tops of the Libretto Range is possible from SH 7 by crossing the Lewis Park National Reserve and climbing through the bush.

Access to the six small areas marked at the southern end of the hunting area map requires permission from Glenhope Station.
