About this hunting block
General information
The Hunter Hills Conservation Area is a 7,748 ha tussock grassland area along the top of the range above Matatā and Nimrod Scenic Reserves.
Access
From Lake Tekapo follow State Highway 8 towards Fairlie to Dog Kennel Corner. Turn right onto Haldon Road and follow this for 4 km, then turn left on Hakataramea Road. The access point for the public conservation land is about 10.5 km past Hakataramea Pass.
From Kurow go to Hakataramea township and follow Hakataramea Valley Road past Cattle Creek, then follow Hakataramea Pass Road for about 17 km to the access point onto public conservation land.
Helicopter landings may be approved.
Note: Firearms are not permitted on the easement that accesses this area from the Mt Nimrod Reserve.
