Introduction

The Ruataniwha Conservation Area hunting block is on the northern end of the Ben Ohau Range.

Permit requirements

A permit is required to hunt on public conservation land.

This hunting area is covered by an 'open area permit' – get it online or from a DOC office.

Dog access

Dogs allowed. Keep dog under control at all times.

About this hunting block

General information

The Ruataniwha Conservation Area hunting block is on the northern end of the Ben Ohau Range. Beech forest is found in Freds Stream and Bush Stream.

It was part of Glentanner Station until acquired as public conservation land in 2015 through the tenure review process. It will become part of Ruataniwha Conservation Park in due course.

Huts

There are no huts in Ruataniwha Conservation Area.

Access

Access the block from the Aoraki/Mount Cook Highway (SH80). Foot access is via the stream beds of Freds Stream, Bush Stream, Twin Stream and Whale Stream.

Dogs

Dogs are allowed in this block but must be under control.
