Maps are posted to this web page following tahr control operations. These maps show where operations have taken place and how many tahr have been controlled.
As DOC does not target identifiable male tahr outside of the national parks (Management Unit 4), observations of identifiable males across parts of 425,000 ha of public conservation land have been recorded and are shared here to help hunters plan their next hunt.
2025/26 control updates
Maps of control operations within the Management Units, and sightings of identifiable males are available below. These maps are updated throughout the season.
As of early September 2025, aerial control (including Aerial Assisted Trophy Hunting environmental offset control) is complete in these Management Units (MU) for 2025/26:
- MU 3 (Gammack/Two Thumb)
- MU4b (Aoraki Mt Cook National Park)
- MU 5 (Ben Ohau)
- MU 6 (Landsborough)
DOC aerial control and/or AATH offset control are still planned for 2025/26 (before mid-November) in these areas:
- MU 1 (South Rakaia/Upper Rangitata)
- MU 2 (South Whitcombe/Whataroa)
- MU 4a (Westland Tai Poutini National Park)
- MU 7 (Wills/Hunter/Ahuriri)
- Areas outside the Management Units, but within the tahr feral range.
