Introduction

Find out about aerial access for tahr hunting on the West Coast

Some sites are within Wilderness Areas and access by helicopter is permitted only during the tahr control ballot period (late April-June).

Get details of West Coast helicopter operators.

The ballot period allows one party to land at a designated landing site each 7 day period. Hunters can walk/camp anywhere they like from this site but should be aware that there may be other landing sites (and parties) close by.

The ballot does not grant exclusive hunting rights to the block, just the right to be the only party to fly in to the designated site. Hunters who wish to walk in during this period are still free to do so if they hold an Open Area Hunting Permit.
