The Dominion Observatory in Wellington's Botanic Gardens is where New Zealand's time was determined using astronomical observations.

Note: Heritage New Zealand now manage the Government Buildings and Turnbull House.

Visit the historic Dominion Observatory - built in 1907 to track New Zealand standard time, and used from 1916 for New Zealand’s first seismic research.

The Observatory is located in Wellington on Salamanca Rd, Kelburn. Follow one of the many tracks through the Botanic Gardens or catch the cable car from Lambton Quay and follow the signs.
