Boielles Campsite is only open for winter camping – from May to October.
The campsite is an open grassy field directly adjacent to the Waiotauru River. There is a small cooking shelter, flush toilets, good river swimming, and at the start of a number of day walks and longer overnight tramps. The campsite is on the Te Araroa Trail.
No rubbish facilities are provided at this campsite. You need to take all your rubbish with you when you leave.
Fees
- Adult (18+ years): $10 per night
- Child (5–17 years): $5 per night
- Infant (0–4 years): free
There is a maximum of seven days per stay for this site.

Te Araroa Trail walkers should register and purchase the Te Araroa Trail Pass.
Bookings
Bookings open at 12 noon on Thursday 14 May 2026. Winter only, summer bookings available at School House Flat Campsite.
- If no availability shows online for your dates, the campsite is fully booked.
- No spaces are kept for campers arriving without a booking.
- Phone and in‑person bookings made at a visitor centre incur a $10 service fee.
- Same‑day bookings are available online until 8 pm if spaces remain.
1 km south of Ōtaki, turn into Ōtaki Gorge Rd. The campsite is 19 km east of Ōtaki township. Ōtaki Gorge Rd is a narrow gravel lane in places.
