The tall forest reflecting in the calm waters of the Waihora Lagoon

This lagoon is one of the most beautiful spots in the Pureora Forest Park park, surrounded by tall rimu and kahikatea that reflect in the water.
The track is well-formed with a boardwalk snaking through the trees to a platform beside the lagoon – a shallow ephemeral wetland surrounded by swamp forest.
From SH32 turn onto Waihora Road (signposted). Follow this gravel road for approx. 3 km before turning into the Waihora Lagoon car park.
Waihora Road closed to cars and 2WD vehicles: Waihora Road, which leads to the Waihora Lagoon Walk, is impassable for 2WD vehicles and cars. The road is open to 4WD vehicles and foot traffic only.
The lagoon can dry out in summer.
