Introduction

Play eye-spy on the scenic 25-minute drive from Dunedin to reach this predator-free native cloud forest, home to some of our rarest birds, reptiles and plants.
  • Explore the interactive visitor center to learn more about Orokonui and some of the world’s most fascinating, rare wildlife.
  • Get out into the ecosanctuary for close encounters with tuatara, Otago skink and takahē.
  • Practise your best bird call whistle to bring forest birds down from the trees – try different sounds to attract different birds.
  • Look for signs of animals near the walking paths – who might have left the poos?

Getting there: Orokonui Ecosanctuary is at the top of Blueskin Road,  25 minutes by car from Dunedin City centre via either SH1or SH88. 

Entry fees apply. Upon arrival tell the visitor center staff that you are taking part in Kiwi Guardians and you will receive a 10% discount.
