Little River Rail Trail

Introduction

Jump on your bike for a lakeside ride along this historic rail trail. Stop at the world famous bird watching lake Te Waihora - a migration destination for some amazing birds. Spot the long distance godwit, or a velvet-black tuna/eel.
  • Is that a godwit? Wow, there are some long distance flyers around here!
  • This wetland is fed by the Southern Alps, and the wild Canterbury braided rivers.
  • Time for a snack? Pace yourself – it’s an epic day out.
