Kiwi Guardians at Catchpool Valley
Introduction
This pleasant and easy walk begins below the car park area, just beyond the bridge across Catchpool Stream. It leads upstream through a nikau grove and mature podocarp/broadleaf forest to another bridge and the Ōrongorongo Track.- Rimutaka Forest Park is home to introduced brown kiwi.
- See extensive native plant species, podocarp forests and freshwater surrounded by native birds and invertebrates.
- Your dogs are welcome but they must be on a leash.

Getting there: Catchpool valley is 12 km south of Wainuiomata. Follow the Coast Road for 10 km to the Rimutaka Forest Park entrance, then follow the Catchpool valley road for 2 km to the car park and information area. The entrance gate to Catchpool valley is open summer 6 am–8 pm; winter 6 am–6 pm.
