Just a 30 minute drive from New Plymouth, the North Egmont Road end has:

Limited parking at North Egmont road end
Car parking at the North Egmont road end is limited until December 2026 due to construction of the new visitor centre.
Large trucks will be using the road, so please drive carefully and expect occasional delays. We recommend carpooling or using a shuttle if you're planning a visit. The North Taranaki Visitor remains open.

The roadend is at the top of Egmont Road, 29 km from New Plymouth. The road winds for 6 km through dense podocarp/broadleaf rainforest, with large rimu and rata trees on the lower slopes of the mountain. It climbs steeply through the wetter and cooler montane forest with kamahi, mosses, liverworts and ferns.
- No dogs are allowed in this area.
- Taranaki Maunga has changeable and unpredictable weather. Check the forecast and carry clothing and equipment to ensure you are able to cope with any type of weather.
