This wide-track, pleasant walk around the tidal Orokonui lagoon has several start points, including a parking area on Orokonui Rd.

From Waitati, north of Dunedin, drive along Harvey Street, turn left onto Orokonui Road to the parking area.

The full loop track crosses a single lane road bridge at the mouth of the lagoon with no pedestrian footpath. Be aware of vehicles going each way on the bridge. 

Tsunami risk

This track is susceptible to tsunami. If a siren sounds or a tsunami alert is received move to higher ground and stay away from the coast until the risk or alert period is over.
