Introduction

Bannockburn a historic town established in 1858. There are fantastic walks and mountain biking that explores the historical gold mining relics, scenic picnic spots and also a cafe and wine tasting at the local vineyards.

You can explore Bannockburn township and see the historic Bannockburn Post Office, visit the local pub or one of the wineries. You can also explore the walking and mountain bike tracks that pass through the historical landscape.  

From Bannockburn, there are many 4WD, or longer walks or mountain bike trips. You can visit the Young Australian Water Wheel in the Carrick Range, or explore Carrick Town, or 4WD through the Nevis Valley to Garston.

Bannockburn provides access to the nearby Nevis Valley (a public road) that offers a scenic 4WD or mountain bike experience.

The Nevis road travels from Bannockburn through to Garston. The road initially climbs up and travels along a tussock ridge before dropping down to the Nevis Crossing and Schoolhouse Terrace. Travel continues through a gorge to the upper Nevis, climbs over a relatively low saddle (1090 m) before descending to Garston.  

The 4WD track has 31 river crossings and has great scenery with views of the Hector and Remarkable ranges. Historical relics can be found along the Nevis road and up most of the Nevis river tributaries.
