This well-graded track with stairs climbs through mixed podocarp forest to an awe inspiring mature kauri.

The track starts off Murray Road. Get there from Kaikohe or Dargaville.

From Kaikohe, head south on Mangakahia Road for 37 km. Turn right onto Opouteke Road, and follow the road for about 4 km. Turn left on to Murray Road. The track is 1.7 km along Murray Road.

From Dargaville, head northeast along SH14 for 11 km to Tangowahine. Turn left onto Tangowahine Valley Road and follow this for 17.4 km, then turn right onto Murray Road. Continue north for 4.5 km to the start of the track on the right side of the road.
