Turn off SH1 on the north side of the Waima River Bridge, 55 km south of Blenheim and 72 km north of Kaikoura, into the Waima/Ure Valley. Follow the narrow gravel road up to Blue Mountain Station, 12 km from SH1.
Access
Access via the Gorge is not recommended due to significant safety risks including ongoing rockfall hazards, cliffside instability and numerous slips. The track is no longer maintained.
Helicopter access
There are a number of huts and bivvys not accessible by road or track. Helicopter operators must have a landing concession.
