Keep watch for the tiny rifleman, New Zealand’s smallest bird, in Mohi Bush Scenic Reserve. The reserve is one of the few places the bird is found outside of the forest parks in Hawke’s Bay.
Native birds are plentiful in Elsthorpe Scenic Reserve, including kererū, tūī and fantails.
There are picnic tables at both reserves. Mohi Bush also has a toilet.
To reach Mohi Bush, head south from Havelock North on Waimarama Rd, turn into Maraetotara Rd, then Waipoapoa Rd (38 km from Havelock North). To access Elsthorpe (44 km from Havelock North), turn off SH2 onto Elsthorpe Rd at Otane.
